What is the true online advertising growth rate?

Spending on online advertising will grow 17.9% this year, far greater than the anticipated 5.8% growth in overall U.S. ad spending, according to a new report by Outsell, Inc.

Online is expected to account for around 20% of all ad dollars, but this includes money spent on marketers' own Web sites. Indeed, 58% of all online marketing dollars go to marketers' own increasingly elaborate sites, which are often used as the target ("landing page") for online ad spending, including paid adwords on sites like Google.
