We've been tracking CapMed very closely. Here's the interview with their Stephen Keeler, Director of Business Development:

1 . We're seeing signs that PHR-- at long last-- is moving from talk to action. What are you seeing?

ANSWER: Yes, and this is due to a few key trends. First, we finally have more sources with which to exchange standards based data, which we at CapMed have been prepared to do for quite some time. Second, users are becoming aware of the solutions and value a PHR gives them, which is our thrust - you don't want a PHR per se, but you do want all the cool stuff it can do for you. Third, people are learning they can trust their data with us, which is the most important thing you need for adoption and usage.

2. What are your plans in the EMPLOYER space?

ANSWER: Very aggressive. Employers have been bearing the brunt of the double digit year to year increases in healthcare costs, and are delighted with how we are a vital part of controlling those costs. Also, we are a critical tool in the kit they must offer employees as they shift the burden of healthcare management to them. You can't just throw people into a CDHP plan without giving them tools like our PHR to help. We also have some very cutting edge applications in the workplace for enhanced employee safety. So we are going directly to employers, and through key channel partners to improve the ROI on their existing wellness and other employee benefits programs.

3. What is the thinking behind your Microsoft HealthVault relationship?

ANSWER: We have long been the patient advocate and consumer champion in the PHR space. This means we invest heavily to give our end-users access to all the credible data sources and analytics they might want to use, and we are delighted that Microsoft was the first out of the gate with Healthvault, and that we were the first PHR to have an application for our end-users on it.

4. Can you share any results to date on the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network pilot?

ANSWER: No. Our PHR is a custom branded application for them, as we support our clients' ownership of the patient relationship. You'd have to get it from them.

5 . Appears that you have an important offering relating to PHR & Mobile-- can you discuss?

ANSWER: Yes, icePHR is available to the general public off of Healthvault. This is a life-saving application that allows the end-user to have his or her personally selected emergency profile information available for emergency personnel to access very quickly, either from the patient's mobile phone or via a special module we've developed for first responders. When first responders know that a person has a particular allergy, or medication, a lot of lives can be saved, outcomes improved, and costs minimized. The triple win.
