We're fans of MDJunction, and interviewed co-founder Roy Lev.

THEIR DESCRIPTION: MDJunction is a Health related social network, a center for Online Support Groups. This community is about people helping people, sharing personal experiences and knowledge, just as it used to be in the old days.

1. How does MDjunction differ from the other "electronic support group" players?

ANSWER: Online support groups as a concept are taking their first steps on the internet. It is very hard to see the differentiation right now as we are all trying new things while relying on known ones (?!). I believe that as we move forward each one of the sites will focus on different goals and approaches.

MDJunction's main focus is people helping people. We want a community managed by the community, we strive to empower our members to lead, make a change and have a positive effect on their friends and fellow warriors. We believe that achievement plays a crucial role on the way to recovery and a better life.

2. You've had a big surge in traffic of late. What has caused this?

ANSWER: True (a pause for a smile). Up until November we were running as 'livebeta'. We had 14 support groups and attracted people who were interested in those topics only. Right now we have more than 600 support groups (even more coming soon). Our target audience expended dramatically and we are seeing an immediate climb.

3. What features are you finding most popular?

ANSWER: Our members come to the site MDJunction either to give or get support, the features who assist those purposes are the most popular. Thousands of private messages every day, members giving each other hugs and our awareness ribbons features.

4. Any plans for languages other than English?

ANSWER: Talks yehh. Actions nehh. When seeking support, people prefer using their mother tongue which makes adding Spanish (and a few more) a reasonable goal. However, the American internet market is so well established, the advertisers are known and we speak the language.. it will happen - the timeline I'm not sure about.

5. What is your revenue-generation strategy?

ANSWER: Our revenue strategy is based on the ability to provide pin pointed marketing and segmentation on various health topics. Each support group deals with one health condition/illness and acts as a stand alone portal for that topic. By using this structure we are able to know exactly what each one of our members is interested in and act accordingly. It can be used for advertising, sell of products and ad-hoc services.
